Climate and your bedroom in Uganda
Uganda lies on the equator, so day length stays close to 12 hours all year and sunrise is near 6:30 to 7:00 AM. There are two rainy seasons, roughly March to May and September to November. Because the day length barely changes, your body clock does not need to adjust by season, and a fixed wake time is easy to keep. Heavy rain on a tin roof can be loud, so earplugs or a fan for white noise help.
A cool, dark and quiet room helps most people. A common guide is 15 to 19 degrees Celsius, although many homes cannot reach that, so use airflow, light bedding and shade. See how temperature affects sleep.
Daily life, work and sleep in Uganda
Kampala is known for heavy traffic, and many people leave early and return late. Mosquitoes are a real sleep issue in the evening, so a treated net over the bed protects both health and sleep. Keep the net tucked in and in good repair.
Power cuts in some areas can switch off fans overnight, so a light cotton sheet that is comfortable at any temperature is useful.

Frequently asked questions
What time zone is Uganda in?
Uganda uses UTC+3. It does not use daylight saving time.
How do I beat jet lag?
Shift your schedule toward the new time zone for a few days before you leave if you can, choose flight sleep to match night at the destination, get daylight at the right time after landing and keep the first nights steady. Many travelers adjust about one hour of time difference per day.
How many hours do teenagers and children need?
CDC guidance lists 8 to 10 hours for ages 13 to 18, 9 to 12 hours for ages 6 to 12, 10 to 13 hours for ages 3 to 5 including naps, and 11 to 14 hours for ages 1 to 2 including naps.
How do I move my bedtime earlier?
Shift it by 15 to 30 minutes every two or three days while keeping the wake time fixed, get bright light after waking and dim lights for an hour before bed.
What happens in one sleep cycle?
A cycle moves through lighter NREM sleep (N1 and N2), deep slow wave sleep (N3) and then REM sleep. Early cycles contain more deep sleep, while later cycles contain more REM, which is why the last hours before waking are valuable for dreaming and memory processing.
Is jet lag worse flying east or west?
Eastward travel is usually harder because you must fall asleep earlier than your body clock wants. Westward travel asks you to stay up later, which is generally easier.
Is 6 hours of sleep enough?
For most adults it is below the recommended 7 hours. Some people feel fine for a while, but research on chronic sleep restriction found that performance slips even when people do not feel very sleepy. Treat 6 hours as a short night and plan recovery sleep.
Does a consistent sleep schedule really matter?
Yes. A regular sleep and wake time supports your body clock, which can make it easier to fall asleep and wake up. Large gaps between weekday and weekend times can leave you feeling jet lagged on Monday.
