Why fast food calories add up so fast
A single burger is rarely the problem. The meal is. A double burger (about 550 kcal), medium fries (about 320) and a medium soft drink (about 200) already reach roughly 1,070 kcal, which is more than half of a 2,000 kcal day in one sitting.
Sauces, cheese, fried coatings and sugary drinks are where most extra calories hide. Use the calculator to compare orders before you buy.
Swaps that save calories
- Choose grilled chicken instead of fried. It often saves 60 to 100 kcal.
- Pick small fries instead of large. That is a saving of about 260 kcal.
- Swap a regular soft drink for water or an unsweetened drink and save about 200 kcal.
- Skip extra sauce and cheese slices. Each slice adds about 50 to 70 kcal.
- Share a large item or take half home.
Late night fast food and sleep
Fatty, salty food eaten close to bedtime is a common cause of reflux, restless nights and morning tiredness. Try to eat at least three hours before you sleep. Use the meal timing calculator to find your cut off time.
